On Wednesday's, we wear pink

Well, it's officially the last day of Summer which as me feeling a mix of emotions! As my final salute to Summer 2016, I put on my favourite bright pink skirt and went out to pay homage to the best summer yet, whilst enjoying a beautiful sunset at the lake. I am going to miss wearing my bright colours from my Summer wardrobe, but I know I will find ways to incorporate them into my Fall wardrobe as we transition seasons.

I guess it's time to start packing in the Summer clothes and pulling out the Fall clothes. I will miss long skirts and shorts, dresses with bare legs and sandals. While it doesn't 100% feel like Fall weather quite yet in Canada, I may be able to get away with longer skirts and bare legs a little bit longer. Paired with a light jacket like my leather one, this is what I will wear as we change seasons and I slowly part with my favourite items for the year. However, I am excited to start wearing big comfy knit sweaters and tights with my dresses! I've been on the hunt for the perfect Fall staple pieces to add to my closet, so any suggestions would be so helpful :)
Side note: I need to take this "midi" skirt to get hemmed for next Summer #ShortGirlProblems LOL

Weekly snaps

It's been a rather busy September thus far for us (hence why I haven't posted much :( ) but nonetheless it's been a good month! Between kick-boxing and zumba classes, work and looking at houses, my weeks have been pretty jammed packed. Doesn't leave me too much time to do all the usual stuff we enjoy doing, but gotta do what ya gotta do! This week was an exception - we were able to fit in fun and outings. We went downtown for some food and drink and walked around, house hunted, went to the World Cup of Hockey kick off party featuring Sam Roberts and The Killers (SO GOOD!) and then attended another concert - Anderson Paak + Kaytranada which was very cool! We also got some really exciting news this week - WE GOT AN APARTMENT! If you read my previous post, I talked about the struggles of house hunting and searching for rentals, but I guess luck was on our side as we continued with our search, the third place we checked out (and really liked) we got! Third time's a charm, right? We move in October 1st and could not be more excited and happy for this new adventure. I may not be as present I want on here for the next few weeks, but please be patient and stick around for many more fun posts and collaborations coming up!

Life lately: house hunting

Since I started blogging I never got too personal on here, but I figured when the time came I would use this space to kind of write out my thoughts and feelings on a current life situations. New Darlings wrote a post the other day about life and it really struck a chord with me.

I'll first start out by mentioning - I'm 24 years old and still live at home with my parents. It's not the most ideal situation, but I am very grateful my parents have always provided a roof over my head among all the other things they do for me. Living at home with my parents has it's pros and cons. It's been a blessing living with them because it has given me the opportunity to save for college and pay for it on my own, as well as saving to afford my 3 month Euro trip. But one of the hardest things is not having a place to make and call my own. Ruben and I have been together over 6 years and have never had a place to call our own. We are thankful both our families have been so warm and welcoming in letting us live between homes, but it's hard.

My parents recently sold our family home that I've grown up and lived in for the past 15 years. I'm so happy for them because they are building their dream house that they will soon retire in.This also gives me the push to figure out where Ruben and I are going to live, and we have begun to look. I'm at an age where all my friends are buying homes, getting married and starting their families and I start to wonder - what am I doing with my life? We have been saving for so long to buy our dream home (one of the reason's we live with our parents) but it's just so hard and frustrating in this day and age. The market is so high, and places get taken right away or it breaks out into full on bidding wars. This isn't ideal for us, so now we are resorting to something that wasn't quite what we planned - renting.

Renting in and around the Greater Toronto Area is not only expensive, but again, so hard to find! Once you find the perfect place that is within your budget, it's gone. Everyone is in the same boat and I'm becoming more and more emotionally drained and hopeless. We are looking into a few more places this week and I can only hope to remain optimistic and calm throughout this process. It can definitely be daunting to try and figure out your life so quickly when you least expected it. Graciously, my parents have offered to allow us to stay with them when they move, but I think it's time we fly the coop. I will continue to remind myself everything happens for a reason as we try to figure this all out.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it. - Ferris Bueller.

So long sweet Summer!

Needless to say, Summer is my absolute favourite season! I love the warm weather, wearing dresses and sipping on cold drinks; so it's safe to mention I'm pretty bummed it's all over so quickly. I can't say it enough, this summer seriously flew by! Looking back on it, I did so many amazing things with so many amazing people and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Not only did I start my blog near the beginning of the summer, I am so proud of myself for documenting all the good times we had so I can look back on summer 2016 as one of the best yet! I was also so glad to finally create and publish my summer to-do list (something I've always wanted to do) I think part of the reason this summer was so great was that I made this list, and crossed a lot off of it. I'm going to have to start a trend of making all seasonal to-do lists!

I thought it would be nice to look back on some of the fun things we did this summer, including the things I crossed off the list! And now, a moment of silence for Summer 2016....

Took a road trip to NYC with Ruben! Left on a Friday morning and came home on a Monday, a short but sweet trip.

Went on a wine tour with some of the best gals to celebrate my sister-in-law for her  bachelorette! It was a really beautiful and fun weekend in Niagara on the lake.

Caught a double feature at the Drive in - we saw Popstar and The Nice Guys. One of my favourite summer time traditions is going to the drive in with lots of snacks and blankets.

Antique Hunting! Went a few times this summer to my favourite market in Aberfoyle, but I think for the most part I left empty-handed. Luckily the season goes on until October!

Went to the best music festival (Wayomhe) with my most favourite people! We camped for three days under the stars and got to see so many amazing bands - definitely one of the biggest highlights of my summer.

Hit up the Toronto Flower Market and left with this cute little prickly cactus that will forever remind me of Summer 2016

Spent the day exploring Kensington Market eating good food and checking out awesome shops.

There was no shortage of ice cream dates this summer! Every opportunity was a good opportunity for a cold treat (and a photo op)

We enjoyed a beautiful day at the Toronto Island, having a picnic in the sand by the water

Of course we went to The EX for some end of summer fun and the last hurrah!

And probably one of my favourite things to happen this summer, my brother married his best friend - Adriana! It was the most beautiful wedding and the perfect end to summer.

This little look back on my summer makes me feel so emotional because I'm so sad it's over and now in the past, but I love to reflect back on all the good times that were had. I'm feeling pretty optimistic for what's ahead in Autumn and look forward to creating more memories with my friends and family to share with you! Bring on the pumpkin carving and halloween treats and colourful hikes -I'm ready for you Fall!

Summer daze

Summer in Canada definitely goes by in a flash, so when it's here you really have to soak it all in while you can. Before you know it, a short Autumn hits us followed by the long, dreaded Winter! One of our favourite summer time activities is visiting the Toronto Centre Island. We don't have many beaches around, but if there's sand + water + sun - it works for me. The island holds a special place in Ruben and my hearts as it was one of the first places we went on a date over six years ago! It feels like an escape from the city, despite it being a short ferry ride away and the fact that you can see the CN Tower from the beach.
Full disclosure, the above photo of these dreamy pink umbrellas is not on the Toronto Island sadly. We made a quick pit stop at Sugar Beach to scope the scene and hangout for a bit before heading over to the ferry. It's a great place to relax and have a picnic!

This past weekend was our last available weekend really to do anything summery before it felt too late, so we took the opportunity to hit up one of our favourite summer spots. For nostalgic purposes I actually ended up wearing the same skirt I wore with Ruben the first time we went six years ago hah! I'm a little cheesy like that ;) I enjoy the little things and these kinds of memories.
