Let's go to The EX!

Sadly, you know summer is coming to an end when the CNE (a.k.a. Canadian National Exhibition a.k.a The EX) rolls into Toronto. The final few weeks and last call to soak up summer fun before kids head back to school and the weather takes a turn. I never went to the CNE as a kid, in fact - I only went for the first time about 2 years ago! Crazy, right? I think so at least, because it seems to be a huge tradition among a lot of Canadian families. Ruben and I decided to take a much needed day off this past Friday to head out to explore the EX for a fun double-date with my brother Alex, and his girlfriend Nicki! We had such a good time walking around and trying some of the tasty (and weird) food creations that are always offered.
There was so much colour and inspiration everywhere I looked! I loved stopping to admire all the rides, games and food vendors. There's something so nostalgic and awesome about spending time at the local fair, the feeling of youth and happiness combined. I think everyone can agree fair's bring out the inner child in you.
First thing we did when we got there was hunt down the snow cones! It was super hot and we needed a treat to cool us down and it definitely hit the spot. It was the first of many sugary treats we had to fuel our day. Although I left without cotton candy in hand, we did get deep fried mars bars and Twinkies! Followed by Tiny Toms donuts which is ALWAYS a must - gotta love those warm, powdered sugar mini donuts.
We didn't opt to get on any of the rides, instead we just walked around and took photos of them haha. I guess my brother and I have always had a fear of the rides at the EX because of old tails and rumors about people dying on them...or maybe that's just what our parents always told us so they never had to take us there and spend money on it LOL!I think next year I want to try out some of the rides - they do look quite fun! I have a year to work up my courage...

An enjoyable day overall and another thing I can cross off my summer to-do list! What are some of your favourite summer or end of summer traditions?

Weekly snaps

Another lovely week spent doing fun things and crossing more off the summer to-do list! Nic and I took a power pilates class on Tuesday and boy did it kick my butt! We signed up for a month trial at a studio nearby and I'm excited to try out some more classes this week. I worked on a few projects and fun ideas to keep myself busy so the week would fly by and it definitely did. Before I knew it, it was Friday (which I had the day off -wooohoo) and we went down town to the CNE for some summer fun. Yesterday was the perfect day to go hangout at the Toronto Island and relax in the sand, by the water. We try and go every year because that's where we went on one of our first dates six years ago! So it holds a special spot in our hearts and is always such a nice little escape. I'm still soaking up all that I can of summer and am looking forward to this coming week!

HaPpY fRiDaY! Once again we've made it to the *best* day of the week, the day that I wish would last forever. Oh Friday, you are so loved. I cannot believe we are headed into the last week of August aka the unofficial end to summer *cries*. Although I'm feeling quite sad about this, I'm trying to remain optimistic and get excited for Fall. Until then, I'm going to keep the summer vibes alive with some of my fav links this week, enjoy and have a great weekend, lovelies!

Blueberry lemonade

Hello again! I'm comin' atcha with another (attempt) at a delicious creation. First off let me start by saying, I am no bartender but I do love a good cocktail! I'm all for a simple yet delicious drink you can easily make with a few things. Although summer may be coming to an end, this refreshing blueberry lemonade will have you holding onto summer while you
sip. I first tried a similar drink while celebrating Canada Day and was immediately hooked. When we went to Wayhome, this was one of our mix drinks of choice because it was so refreshing not to mention quick and easy.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
-Blueberry flavoured vodka
-Lemonade (fresh or store bought)
-Tonic water or club soda (something to add a bit of *fizz*)
-Fresh blueberries
-Lemon slices for garnish

When making this drink, I didn't really measure anything out, just eye-balled it. Depending on how much you feel like partying, add about one shot (or more) of blueberry vodka over ice. Add lemonade and tonic water till it looks about equal parts, taste it just to be sure! Throw in some blueberries and add a lemon to the drink or glass for garnish. VOILA! The easiest cocktail ever to enjoy on a hot summer afternoon.

Weekly snaps

Hey friends! Sorry I've been a little MIA around here this week, my posts didn't quite go as planned due to a busy week at work! Despite being very busy, I was still able to fit in some fun here and there and enjoyed getting out and about in the city when I had the chance. Ruben and I enjoyed a nice Sunday in the city, I went with my sister in law for her final dress fitting (the wedding is in two weeks!!) and hit up the flower market and enjoyed a yummy brunch with Nic. Overall a nice week, but I'm really looking forward to this week because 1. it's a short work week for me and 2. Friday off means more FUN in the city! Looking forward to going to the CNE and soaking in all the last moments of the hustle and bustle of the summer.

Enjoy your week and make the most of it!

Sunday Funday in the city

After spending much of our Saturday stuck in the house all thanks to thunderstorms, we made the most of our Sunday by venturing into the city to explore and enjoy the turn around in weather. We didn't have much of a plan in mind as to where we wanted to go or what we wanted to do, but spontaneity is usually when we have the most fun! We hit up one of my favourite murals in the city done by artist Maya Hayuk, and had fun taking photos and being goofy as passersby smiled and/or laughed at us - YOLO. I'm learning to not care about what others think as I pose for photos, but still get awkward and shy from time to time (Ruben can attest to this!)
Afterwards we made our way over to Queen West, one of our favourite neighbourhoods to hangout and wander around. Both of us started to become hangry so we began doing that thing where we ask each other - "where do you want to eat?" "I don't care!". And that's when we stumbled upon Duggan's Brewery, it was like it just appeared out of nowhere and said "COME HERE!" We love to visit local breweries, and had never been there before so it was the perfect opportunity to try something new. The beer was deliciously refreshing and quite satisfying. We snacked on some appetizers, because that's really all they had, but the fries with garlic aioli and cajun cauliflower definitely hit the spot paired with our pints!
After feeling happy and replenished, we continued to walk about and explore. As we approached one of our favourite flower and plant shops, my eyes grew big as I saw the freshly painted pink building! There's nothing I love more than a building or wall painted a perfect shade of pink (paint it pink and they will come! - my life motto) I wish I had taken photos inside, but my brain was too scattered at the sight of mini pink pineapple plants and moon cacti, not to mention I was still in awe of the pink exterior! Next time...

weekend links 03

(photo via Instagram)

Happy Friday lovely people! We're expecting thunderstorms and much needed rain this weekend as we've been experiencing a heat wave here in Toronto lately, with record high temps and extreme heat alerts. If the forecast stays as they are calling for it, I'm thinking this is going to be a pretty chill weekend spent inside getting things done and binge watching Netflix. What are your plans for the weekend? I hope you enjoyed these links I've shared that have kept me inspired and entertained. Have a great weekend!

What a fun, easy and budget friendly way to decorate for a large party

Boho braids & white lace & wooden clogs

Of course I have my Starbucks Pink Drink in hand! If you follow me on Snapchat, you know the addition is reeeeeal. It's just so refreshing and tasty (cute too, don't you think?)
Dress: UO (similar) | Shoes: Swedish Hasbeens | Sunglasses: Philistine Toronto | Bag: Indigo

I've been living in flowy and loose sun dresses all summer-long as my way of beating the heat. Can't go wrong paired with some cute heeled sandals and sunnies! This has been my go-to hairstyle this summer, braids are always a good and easy idea - especially on non shampoo days. I guess you could say this is my summer uniform in a nutshell.

I am so beyond obsessed with my new Swedish Hasbeens and want to wear them any chance I get. Some of the most comfy shoes I own and yet still really practical to dress up or down. They are 50% off right now, along with so many other cute styles and variations so make sure you get in on a good thing!
